Vehicles arrive at Sydney City Hotel
8.00AM
This morning we collect you at your Sydney accommodation and departing the city, we travel north over the Sydney Harbour Bridge via the Gore Hill Freeway to join the Pacific Highway and then the F3 Freeway. Crossing the Hawkesbury River we leave the Freeway to travel on sealed roads through the Yengo National Park. Here we travel through contrasting rural farmland and Australian Natural Bush, mountains ranges and grazing land. Enroute we view several sections of the original convict built Old Great Northern Road.
Our morning tea destination is the Wollombi Tavern, one of Australia’s oldest country pubs. Here we enjoy a Devonshire morning tea/coffee and for the adventurous, a tasting of the “infamous” Doctor Jurd’s Jungle Juice. We then travel through the historic Wollombi village and on to Mt View where we gain a panoramic perspective of the Hunter Valley wine areas.
The Hunter Valley is Australia’s oldest winemaking region. Embracing its rich history and combining this with a contemporary style, the Wine Region has created an idyllic environment for producing world class wines and all that goes with them. From its visually splendid location at the base of the Brokenback Ranges, the magnificent landscape unfolds to unlock the secrets to one of the world’s most awarded wine regions.
Semillon and Shiraz are predominately the best wines produced, the Chardonnay and Verdelho styles are also recognised on the world stage. Other emerging styles and blends, from ‘Big Red’s’ to charming dessert wines are also gaining recognition locally and around the world.
On arrival into the Hunter Valley, we will visit the first of our boutique wineries for an informative wine tasting.
We then continue on to our lunch destination, The Great Cask Hall at Hope Estate, one of the most impressive Barrel Rooms in the country. Perfectly located in the heart of Pokolbin the venue is set on 420 acres of rolling countryside and picturesque vineyards. On arrival, we experience a ‘Behind the Scenes’ winery tour of Hope Estate including sampling wines straight from vats and barrels with tutored tasting and wine education by winemakers.
Following the tour, enjoy a sumptuous 2 course lunch catered by the acclaimed Chez Pok from Peppers Guest House and together with Premium Hope Estate Hunter Valley wines.
On completion of lunch, we continue on to visit the Hunter Valley Chocolate Company with a range of products from hand made Belgian chocolate to gourmet gifts. Enjoy tasting's of some of the finest chocolate available.
Our day concludes with a visit to our second boutique winery for a comprehensive tasting before departing the Hunter Valley and commencing our return to Sydney via the Freeway to arrive at your hotel at approximately 5.00 – 5.30pm. |
