DAY 1 - Tuesday 01 July
Our Kimberley journey begins with an early start from Darwin, taking a back road into Litchfield National Park, giving us time to enjoy morning tea and some of the highlights within the Park. Back to the Highway, we travel through Batchelor and on to the little visited Umbrawanna Gorge for a walk and lunch stop. Continuing south we briefly visit Pine Creek and call in at Edith Falls before checking into our accommodation in Katherine. We then travel to Nitmiluk National Park for a sunset dinner cruise in the Gorge (overnight Knott's Crossing Resort, Katherine)
DAY 2 - Wednesday 02 July
Our first stop today is Victoria River in Gregory National Park - spectacular scenery, walking and Aboriginal Art Sites. Lunch at Timber Creek and then on to Keep River National Park for more walking and Aboriginal Art Sites. Over the border into Western Australia and our overnight stay in Kununurra (next two nights Kununurra Country Club)
DAY 3 - Thursday 03 July
After two longish days in the vehicle, a more relaxing pace today. A morning cruise on Lake Argyle and a visit to the old Durack Homestead. This afternoon is spent in and around Kununurra, an irrigation town (Ord River) built in the 1960's but with a history connected to the Durack Family.
DAY 4 - Friday 04 July
An early start this morning to catch the action at Marlgu Billabong (a Ramsar site) and a visit to Wyndham and the 5 Rivers Look Out. We then head south to the Purnululu National Park and our two night stay at the Bungle Bungle Wilderness Camp (next two nights East Kimberley Bungles Camp)
DAY 5 - Saturday 05 July
A full day exploring the gorges and chasms of this world renowned National Park. Option of a scenic helicopter flight to gain that extra perspective of how vast the region is.
DAY 6 - Sunday 06 July
We retrace our steps today travelling back to the Great Northern Highway, through Turkey Creek and on to Emma Gorge. A walk takes the energetic to the head of the gorge, crystal clear pools and a droplet waterfall. Leaving Emma Gorge we follow the Gibb River Road with spectacular late afternoon light on the Cockburn Ranges, cross the Pentecost River heading for our overnight accommodation at Home Valley (overnight Home Valley Station)
DAY 7 - Monday 07 July
Some time to explore at Home Valley before rejoining the Gibb River Road. Lunch at Ellenbrae Station then on to Drysdale River Station (next two nights Drysdale River Station)
DAY 8 - Tuesday 08 July
Today we access the Mitchell Plateau, road conditions at the time permitting. Time spent exploring the falls, with the opportunity to experience an optional helicopter flight to view the Mitchell Falls. Scenic Flights are also available from Drysdale Station for those wanting a break from the bus.
DAY 9 - Wednesday 09 July
Leaving Drysdale we rejoin the Gibb River Road taking time out to enjoy the various gorges, rockholes and waterfalls on our way to our next two night stay at the Mornington Wildlife Sanctuary. This is run by the Aust Wildlife Conservancy and encompasses Diamond Gorge, Sir John Gorge and Cadjeput Hole (next two nights Mornington Wilderness Camp)
DAY 10 - Thursday 10 July
A break from driving today. A day of guided activities led by the Aust Wildlife Conservatory Guide.
DAY 11 - Friday 11 July
From Mornington we cross the King Leopold Ranges, taking time out for lunch in the Lennard River area, continuing on to Windjana Gorge National Park, Tunnel Creek National Park in the afternoon. Our overnight stay is at Fitzroy Crossing (overnight Fitzroy River Lodge)
DAY 12 - Saturday 12 July
After an early morning cruise on Geike Gorge, we follow the Great Northern Highway to Derby, allowing time to visit sites of interest around this Port town (overnight Derby King Sound Resort)
DAY 13 - Sunday 13 July
One of the highlights of this Kimberley tour is a two night stay at Cape Leveque. To access our accommodation at Kooljaman we take a back track between the Great Northern Highway and Beagle Bay - visiting the Sacred Heart Church at Beagle Bay Aboriginal Community. We continue up the Dampier Peninsular to Cape Leveque (next two nights Kooljaman Camp, Cape Leveque)
DAY 14 - Monday 14 July
A day to relax and enjoy this beautiful, pristine environment. For the energetic there are some optional activities such as kayaking, snorkelling and fishing.
DAY 15 - Tuesday 15 July
A lazy departure will have us in Broome for lunch and an afternoon orientation tour before our tour ends (overnight Broome Mangrove Resort)
DAY 16 - Wednesday 16 July
Arrangements can be made to stay on in Broome.
Includes travel, twin share accommodation with en-suite facilities, all meals and comprehensive notes.
