DAY 1 Saturday 16 February
Following the M5 from Sydney, our first stop will be at historic Berrima. Time for a town tour before morning tea alongside the Wingecarribee River. We leave the M5 near Marulan to travel an interesting route which takes us through Bungonia, Braidwood and on to Deua National Park for lunch. Our afternoon run takes us through Numeralla, Cooma and on to our overnight stay in Jindabyne (next two nights at The Horizons Resort, Jindabyne - 523km; easy walking)
DAY 2 Saturday 17 February
Our exploration of the Snowy begins today by accessing the headwaters near Charlottes Pass. The Snowy flows just below the Pass and can be reached by a short walk, along the Main Range Track. The headwaters can also be reached by a 4.5kilomtere walk along the Summit (Kosciusko) Walk. Both walks traverse sub-alpine woodland, heath and herbfields. Further access to the river will be gained at both Guthega and Island Bend where we will view the first of many dams and tunnels which make up the ‘mighty Snowy Scheme’. The afternoon will see further exploration of the Snowy as it winds its way through Jindabyne and Dalgety on its way to the sea. Easy walks with some optional steep climbs.
DAY 3 Monday 18 February
The Snowy flows south from Dalgety swinging north west towards Ingebyra before returning to a southerly direction at its junction with Jacobs River. To enjoy this section of the Snowy River Valley, we will travel on one of the great scenic wilderness drives of Australia- which runs from Jindabyne in the north, through the Snowy River Valley and Suggan Buggan to Buchan in the south. Time for some close encounters with the river - by rafting, paddling or swimming with our hosts from Karoonda Park where we will also be spending the night (overnight at Karoonda Park - 178km).
DAY 4 Tuesday 19 February
Time to enjoy this family property and country hospitality before continuing our exploration of the Snowy. The next stage of our journey takes us through Buchan and along the Buchan-Orbost Road, accessing the Snowy River along the way and following it to the sea at Marlo. The position of the mouth varies considerably but it is generally an easy walk with great views and plenty of interest along the way (overnight at Country Man Motor Inn, Orbost - 108km)
DAY 5 Wednesday 20 February
Today’s journey takes us north to the remote Snowy River National Park on the eastern side of the Snowy River. Morning tea and a walk at Raymond Creek Falls before travelling east through some magnificent stands of mountain ash on the way to the coast and our destination (next 2 nights at Ngairin - 253km)
DAY 6 Thursday 21 February
After the long drive yesterday, we can relax and explore the inlets, beaches and lagoons which surround Ngairin.
DAY 7 Friday 22 February
Our homeward run follows the coast with some flexibility to our plans depending on the
Weather (overnight at Little Forest Lodge, Milton - 178km)
DAY 8 Saturday 23 February
